History of Tibshelf FC

Thanks to the kind offices of our President Mick Wade the history of the Club can now be more detailed. In January 1995 the Club was formed by Mssrs Mick Cousins, Jeremy Dunn, Steve Jones, Ron Sandle, John Haywood for the benefit their own lads interest in the game; of that group founder Colin Hart is still active in the Club as our Treasurer. In that year the focus was on the one team. The season 1995/96 saw two teams under the Tibshelf Tigers banner and one year later an expansion had seen five teams competing for the Club. As a matter of interest some statistics of that season;

This season we created history when Stacey Bridge became the FIRST girl ever to be registered to play and score in the Mansfield Youth Football League.
By 1997/98, running six sides, success was becoming a bye-word for the Club as no fewer than four winner and one runners-up trophies were shared by the teams.

In 2003 Bolsover District Council's Sports Action Group identified Tibshelf as a centre for the development of girls football and an all weather playing surface at the School. After the initial setting up of the girls team by Bolsover Sports Development Team, the Club were invited to incorporate the team under its banner. Despite an encouraging couple of seasons, interest and coaching volunteers wained and the team ceased. The Club made a significant financial contribution to facilitate the development of the MUGA at the School.

Like every other amateur organisation our history is one of success (like being banned from competing in another county’s league for being too successful) and failures (failing to note that a manager had invented match results for a half a season). The latest threat to our existence was four seasons ago when five teams resigned from the Club; thankfully the present Committee stepped in and we survived.

Sixteen years later we run teams at U9, U10, U13, U14, U15, U17 and Adult; it might not have been steady progress over the years but at least we're still here.
